OVERVIEW
As you may remember, popular model Anna Nicole Smith made TrimSpa famous with her catch phrase: "Trimspa, Baby!" Before her untimely death, Smith lost more than 50 pounds while taking the weight loss supplement. Howard Stern producer Gary Del'Abate also lost quite a bit of weight with the product -- as did a host of other celebrities. However, in January of 2007, the makers of Trimspa agreed to pay a settlement of $1.5 million to the FTC after making unsupported claims in advertisements.
Trimspa's parent company, Goen Technologies, filed for bankruptcy protection in May of 2008. By October of 2008, the remains of the business were put up for auction -- including thousands of bottles of TrimSpa.
Though the product originally contained ephedra, the active ingredient in Trimspa X32 is now Hoodia gordonii. Hoodia is a flowering plant similar in appearance to a cactus. The Hoodia plant grows in the desert region of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and Angola. In addition to Hoodia, Trimspa X32 contains glucosamine, an ingredient which can prolong the amount of time that glucose stays in the bloodstream after eating.
