OVERVIEW
Could an ancient plant from South Africa hold the real secret to weight loss? Millions of people seem to think so! Hoodia (pronounced HOO-dee-ah) Gordonii is a flowering plant similar in appearance to a cactus. The Hoodia plant grows in the desert region of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and Angola. According to popular legend, the San Bushmen of the Kalahari desert used Hoodia for thousands of years in order to ward off hunger and thirst during long hunting trips. They would simply cut off a piece of the stem and eat the bitter-tasting plant. Today, Hoodia can be found in capsules, powders, liquids and even teas.
